Our Mission: The Hawaii Catholic Schools Office is committed to helping each Catholic school in the Diocese of Honolulu toward “Thriving School” status through the implementation of the System for Success Strategic Plan. Our schools support and live out the goal of the Diocese of Honolulu – to Witness to Jesus. We do this by serving, supporting and challenging Catholic school communities.

Catholic Identity
GOAL: To infuse and strengthen a Catholic identity throughout the entire school program
Objective 1: Enhance the school’s Catholic Christian identity.
Objective 2: Integrate the school’s religious education and formation into
the life of the parish.
Objective 3: Involve parents and guardians in the religious education and
formation of their children and themselves.
Objective 4: Employ the school as an agent of the new evangelization.
Academic Excellence
GOAL: To promote academic excellence through the development of improved: 21st Century curriculum, teacher recruitment, teacher professional development, and school technology.
Objective 1: Improve communication among our schools and increase the
quality and quantity of professional development options which
support the practices and pedagogy which support the growth of 21st
century skills in our students.
Objective 2: Attain 100 percent compliance of all Catholic school teachers
in minimum teacher qualifications and continuing education
requirements.
Objective 3: Improve teacher recruitment by Hawaii Catholic Schools
Office through improved social media and web presence to increase
the number of quality teacher applicants for our schools.
Objective 4: Coordinate with Road Map implementationefforts initiatives to
improve school facilities.
Objective 5: Implement a diocesan level initiative that facilitates
technology improvements for schools, thus supporting 21st Century
learning.
Objective 6: Develop curricula at the diocesan level to help introduce
Framework for 21st Century learning in the classroom.
Leadership
GOAL: To endorse, sponsor and train leaders who are empowered to lead thriving schools.
Objective 1: The diocese, in collaboration with the superintendent,
will partner with Chaminade University to provide pastors and
principals with orientation, training and mentoring on effective 21st
century school leadership.
Objective 2: Develop a Superintendent Advisory Council comprised of
Hawaii Catholic School principals who will advise the superintendent,
thus promoting collaborative leadership, learning communities and networking.
Objective 3: The diocese will make every effort to appoint to parishes with
schools pastors who have knowledge and academic training in
school administration.
Effective and Efficient Organizational Structures
GOAL: To create, implement and maintain systems in the school and vicariate that strengthen enrollment, governance structures, financial stability, school operations and human resources.
Objective 1: Establish a financial management system with a
single accounting and reporting system and a standardized chart of
accounts that all schools will use and which administrators are
trained.
Objective 2: Create a plan that aligns the development of future
Catholic schools with the Diocesan Road Map’s plan for new parishes
that will enable the creation of regional Catholic schools.
Objective 3: Establish the vicariate’s role in providing advice
and recommendations to school boards, pastors with schools, the
superintendent of Catholic schools, and the bishop on a regular
basis to support strategic planning decisions regarding Catholic
schools.
Objective 4: The Superintendent will in-service local parochial school
boards to support the development of school boards better able to
fulfill their advisory role.
Objective 5: Align non-school parishes with school parishes and include
them in the school’s governance structure.
Schools achieving thriving school status within the next 10 years will have the following characteristics:
Safe and orderly environments
A climate of high expectations for success
Leadership that creates a community of shared values. The principal is
a leader of leaders.
School personnel with expertise in budgeting and accounting, enabling
the school to be financially sound.
Home-school relationships that build on each school’s Catholic
Christian identify.
Educational standards that will ensure curriculum and instructional
quality.
Adequate infrastructures for the technology needed in the schools’
instructional programs.
Coordinated team work among all stakeholders supporting
school initiatives.
Comprehensive Pre-K to Grade 12 school networks strategically located
throughout the state.
A strong partnership with Chaminade University to use its resources
to further student academic achievement and provide professional
development to school personnel.
